SEMIFINALISTS ANNOUNCED FOR JANET & WALTER SONDHEIM ARTSCAPE PRIZE

The Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts announces the semifinalists for the seventh annual Janet & Walter Sondheim Artscape Prize.  The competition awards a $25,000 fellowship to assist in furthering the career of a visual artist or visual artist collaborators living and working in the Greater Baltimore region.  The 2012 Janet & Walter Sondheim Artscape Prize is held in conjunction with the annual Artscape juried exhibition and is produced by the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts.  The finalists and semifinalists’ exhibitions are presented in partnership with The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) and Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA).  An award announcement and reception takes place Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 7pm at the BMA, located on 10 Art Museum Drive.

Approximately six finalists are selected for the final review for the prize.  Their work is exhibited in the Alvin and Fanny Blaustein Thalheimer Galleries of the BMA from Saturday, June 16 through Sunday, July 29, 2012.  Additionally, an exhibition of the remaining semifinalists’ work is shown in the Decker and Meyerhoff galleries of MICA, located at 1303 West Mount Royal Avenue, on Friday, July 20 through Sunday, August 5, 2012.

Artists' Market Applications Now Available!

Artscape is now accepting submissions for the Artists’ Market section of the festival. Exhibitor Packages begin at $500 (for 10’x10’ space) and include: 
 
  • Festival provided tent with sidewall, all spaces have a 10’x10’ footprint (double, tall and end of group spaces are available for an additional fee - there are no “stand alone” spaces)
  • Free access to an electrical outlet and basic overhead lighting
  • Overnight roaming security
  • On-site Artscape help-line
  • Exhibitor Hospitality Bag (festival info, snacks and bottled water)
  • Listing on Artscape website
  • A comprehensive exhibitor guide (emailed pre festival) with helpful tips
  • Access to over 350,000 potential customers for three days

New for 2012, DIY@Artscape joins the Artists’ Market, unifying the festival marketplace and our presentation to the visiting public.

FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE HISTORY OF ARTSCAPE…
A massive visual arts environment that will encompass one third of the surface area of the festival and transform a major thoroughfare into the most expansive visual art exhibit ever seen at Artscape!

Artists working in various mediums, with focus on large scale sculpture, installation and performance are invited to take part in this monumental project that will be part of an expansive environment covering Charles Street, from Mt Royal Avenue up to Station North.
