WHAM CITY: CROSSOVERS
7/16 - 7/18
12:00PM
Pinkard Gallery
Pinkard Gallery in the Bunting Center, MICA
July 16–18, 2010
The Baltimore art collective, Wham City, will be having their first official group exhibition which will be anchored in appropriation, interpretation, homage and parody in contemporary art and society. This theme will be expressed in the work of Wham City members who will appropriate the working styles of other group members and explore the personal connection artists in a small collective have to one another’s work. The Crossovers concept also aims to explore relationships and identities in a society dominated by relentless entertainment media, including the customization of online avatars and personas based on limited options of expression (cartoons, 8-bit imagery, goth, tribal art, etc). The Crossovers show will make the statement that the majority of Americans are actively involved in the process of “crossing over,” mixing themselves with established themes and templates to craft new, if not unique, identities for themselves.
